The voters of North Shropshire prepare to vote

They may not have chosen this course but, this week, the electors of North Shropshire find they now have a massive responsibility — a responsibility to speak on behalf of the nation.

The responsibility thrust upon them is not simply to respond to the errors and misdemeanours of their own disgraced MP, nor to express disquiet over the prevailing ruling arrogance, or revulsion over sewage dumping or the criminalisation of protest — it may not even be a reaction against the appalling realities of Brexit .

The responsibility that falls this coming week is to reflect the needs of an entire nation crying out for competent government, a restoration of trust in democracy and in the rule of law.

This week is not about tribal politics, but about honesty and decency.

Millions are praying that the good folk of North Shropshire will find the courage to say, ‘Enough is Enough’. But will they?
